October is Mental Health Awareness Month – a good time to pause for a moment and ask yourself: How am I really feeling?

Our mental well-being is influenced by many everyday factors: sleep and rest, relationships, nutrition, our surroundings, stress and, of course, physical activity. Staying active is one of the simplest ways to take care of both your body and mind.

Movement helps you slow down and take a moment for yourself

Our days are often filled with tasks, screens, messages and a constant flow of information. Our minds jump from one task to another, and taking time for ourselves can easily end up at the bottom of our priority list.

This is where movement can make a small but meaningful difference.

A workout doesn’t always have to mean pushing yourself to the limit, breaking records or working up a sweat. Sometimes, exercise can simply be a chance to switch off from everything else for a while.

Give yourself that one hour a day. An hour when you don’t have to be anywhere or do anything for anyone else. Just be present and move.

5 reasons why exercise supports mental well-being

1. Exercise helps clear your mind
Physical activity allows you to shift your focus away from work, screens and everyday worries for a while. It’s a simple way to give your mind a little break.

2. A change of scenery helps you switch off from everyday worries
Going to the gym creates a little separation between work and home life. An hour just for yourself might be exactly the break you need during the day.

3. Exercising outdoors helps you slow down
A walk or run in the fresh air gives you a chance to step away from your usual surroundings and recharge mentally.

4. Swimming and sauna help you relax
Swimming can be a soothing, rhythmic activity, while a sauna session helps you unwind even more after your workout. At selected MyFitness clubs, you can also enjoy spa and sauna facilities as part of your fitness experience.

5. Regular exercise helps build healthy habits
Mental well-being is also supported by small, consistent choices. Find a form of exercise you enjoy and make time regularly to move, recharge and simply be.
