Honestly, we didn&#8217;t know what to expect until the very end. Training is one thing, but the energy, pace, and pressure of the competition are something else entirely.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First impression: did we give it our all?<\/h3>\n\n<p>Crossing the finish line is always a special moment. Adrenaline, fatigue, relief. But when it all subsides for a moment, the question arises: could we have done better?<\/p>\n\n<p>Although we were ranked 1st in our age group and 8th overall on the day of the competition, by the end of the competition we had dropped to 32nd place in our age group and 151st overall out of 2,276 competitors.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What went well?<\/h3>\n\n<p>Once the emotions have subsided, you need to begin the analysis.<\/p>\n\n<p>The pace remained steady; we didn&#8217;t overdo it at the beginning and were able to keep the same spirit until the end. The cooperation worked, changes were smooth and as needed. We managed to maintain a consistent pace throughout the race and avoid getting too caught up in the running. However, we will definitely continue to work on this, as our goal is to push the pace even further in the upcoming stages.<\/p>\n\n<p>In reality, you spend about 60%-65% of your time running in a HYROX race, which means if are good at running and feel comfortable, you are already doing well.<\/p>\n\n<p>After the first stage, we changed our training structure very little. We focused a little more on running workouts. Specifically: sprint day, interval day, long run day, running + power stations.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Putting all the numbers aside. Are we happy?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Yes. Absolutely. We really enjoyed the journey to our first competition; we worked hard and left room for improvement in later competitions. We believe that it&#8217;s not just the result that matters, but who you become in the process.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Did reality meet expectations?<\/h3>\n\n<p>Partly yes, partly no. The physical readiness was there, but the pace of the competition and the adrenaline levels were clearly more intense than in training. <\/p>\n\n<p>The transitions from running to the weights station and back were particularly noticeable \u2013 they require more energy than we initially anticipated, but now we have a better understanding of what to focus on in future workouts.<\/p>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s an unimaginable feeling when you step into the starting line and and the seconds start to count down. You look around and see everyone at the starting positions, ready to press the &#8220;start&#8221; button on their sports watches. Only then do you realize what you&#8217;ve truly gotten yourself into.<\/p>\n\n<p>At this stage, it&#8217;s crucial not to let tension and anxiety take over. Inhale and exhale calmly, reminding yourself why you&#8217;re doing this and how hard you trained and worked for it.<\/p>\n\n<p>HYROX is a competition that demands both mental and physical effort, and yes, there will come a moment when a little voice in your head tells you it&#8217;s too difficult, that you might not make it. A week before the competition, we reduced our training load even further and focused on running and maintaining a steady heart rate during training. We tried to train together as much as possible and practiced transitions \u2013 passing the sandbag from our shoulders, dumbbell swaps, one person getting off the ergometer while the other getting on, etc.<\/p>\n\n<p>During the competition, we distributed the load according to our strengths and avoided long, uninterrupted work blocks. Instead, we did shorter, more efficient shifts to maintain a steady pace.<\/p>\n\n<p>We divided the power stations distances so that the faster runner started and finished power stations. This allowed the slower runner more rest, keeping their running pace consistent.<\/p>\n\n<p>During the competition, we also made ongoing changes when we saw that one of us was feeling better in a particular situation or needed a rest. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The role of MyFitness in preparation<\/h3>\n\n<p>The MyFitness environment and the training opportunities play a vital role in our competition preparation.<\/p>\n\n<p>Club <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfitness.ee\/en\/clubs\/myfitness-rocca-al-mare\/\">MyFitness <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfitness.ee\/en\/clubs\/myfitness-rocca-al-mare\/\">Rocca <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfitness.ee\/en\/clubs\/myfitness-rocca-al-mare\/\">Al <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfitness.ee\/en\/clubs\/myfitness-rocca-al-mare\/\">Mare<\/a> played a key role for us, as it has all the necessary equipment and conditions for HYROX training.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The most beneficial were:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>HYROX specific workouts (running + exercises together).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High-intensity interval training.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfitness.ee\/en\/group-trainings\/\">MyFitness group training<\/a>: HYROX, Studio X, Crosstraining.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfitness.ee\/en\/recovery-zone\/\">Recovery Zone<\/a> \u2013 a crucial part of intense training weeks, designed to restore strength and endurance for the following training days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s next?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>We have two more competitions coming up in May: on May 9th in Helsinki and on May 31st in Riga. We&#8217;ll approach the next competitions stronger, smarter, and a little hungrier than before.<\/p>\n\n<p>We&#8217;re fine-tuning the small details, and we&#8217;ll be ready to compete again in a month. We&#8217;re proud of our result, but we never stop asking ourselves: how can we do better? <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><h3><strong>When you go to <\/strong><strong>your <\/strong><strong>first HYROX, ask yourself:<\/strong><\/h3><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have you done at least one full-length race simulation?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have a pace plan?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are you used to the feeling of &#8220;tired legs&#8221; and can keep your pace even when tired?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have you practiced transitioning from power station to running?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is your body accustomed to working continuously at a high heart rate and is it able to cope with it?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Doubles) Have you been practicing smooth transitions at the power stations?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Doubles) Can you both keep a steady running pace?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MyFitness group trainers Avely Heinloo and Jessica Lauter competed in the highly anticipated Hyrox competition for the first time.
